How to Wash Your Hair Less And Detox Your Scalp

Hey Friends!

Today I’m talking all about hair care and how I get away with washing my hair less. (and by less, I mean once a week)
Now before you start to think, ewwww…gross… just hear me out!
I’m going to share how the Pantene Charcoal Shampoo and Conditioner helps rebalance my hair without stripping it’s natural oils and why you should consider using activated charcoal in your hair too.

So if you have followed me for a while, you know the struggles with my oily skin.  The same goes for my scalp.  I have a very oily scalp.  So you may be thinking, okay, well how in the heck do you wash your hair just once a week?

First, let’s talk about my hair. I have very curly hair, like very, very curly,  so if I were to wash my hair every day, it would only lead to frizzy and unruly hair.  It’s so important for me personally to be able to wash my hair as little as possible to minimize frizz and keep my hair manageable.  So how do I do that? I start at the root of the situation… scalp.  If you have a healthy scalp, you have healthy hair, which means you can wash it less!

So, how do you get a healthy scalp

You detox it.

My main issue is that I could never get my hair to feel clean.  You know how frustrating it is to take a lifetime to smooth and straighten curly hair only to have it feel like you didn’t get all the product out?  Or to have little flakes at the root of your hair?  Seriously annoying!  I have purchased numerous shampoos and conditioners, clarifying shampoos, you name it, to get my hair to feel “clean” and always ended up frustrated with full bottles of shampoo I wasn’t going to use.
I could never find one that would lather enough to really clean my scalp without stripping my hair at the same time.

That’s what got me thinking….

So, you know if your pores on your face are clogged, it’s recommended to use an activated charcoal mask?  Well, why not take the charcoal to your scalp with an activated charcoal shampoo?  I’ve been using the Pantene Charcoal Collection Shampoo and Conditioner for a few weeks now and it has been a game changer!  This is how I can get away with washing my hair just once a week. I am using good products that get rid of all the hair impurities leaving me with squeaky clean hair that’s shinier and much easier to manage.

Activated Charcoal and Why You Should be Using it in Your Hair

The Pantene activated charcoal system includes a blend of pro-vitamin B5, activated charcoal and antioxidants which in turn detox your hair by attracting all the impurities from product buildup, oils, pollutants, etc, (like a magnet) while releasing antioxidants.  It’s kinda like a facial for your scalp and hair!  Plus, it’s free of silicone, parabens and dyes.  If you have an oily scalp, it helps rebalance your hair so you can go more days without washing.

But is it safe for your hair?

This is what I love about this purifying system.  Not only is it silicone free but it’s also paraben free.
Not only that, but the Pantene Charcoal Conditioner is the first ever silicone free conditioner that not only rinses out quickly but leaves your hair so clean, renewed and super shiny.
Plus, you can use it on color treated hair without worrying about fading.

Tips for Washing Your Hair Less

  • Train your hair.
If you are used to washing your hair often, you have to train it.   But just like potty training, it takes time.
    Oh, the potty training days.
First, start by using a good purifying Shampoo and Conditioner to get rid of the impurities and buildup.
This is the most important thing…treat your scalp first!
Since using the Pantene Charcoal Collection, not only is my hair so clean after I wash it, but I have no product buildup, no flaky, itchy scalp AND my hair doesn’t feel stripped.
  • Don’t be afraid of dry shampoo.
Just like using charcoal on my face and in my shampoo, I  use a charcoal based dry shampoo.
    This one is my favorite.
  • Try not to touch your hair.
The oils from your hands lead to oils in your hair which can lead to more oily hair.

My Typical Hair Routine

Day one:
Wash and rough blow dry my hair.
Every night, I very loosely braid my hair and use this hair tie to prevent any kinks.
My absolute favorite brush to use (ESPECIALLY if you have extensions) is this one

Day two:
Curl my hair.
Once I curl my hair with this curling iron, I usually only have to touch it up again until I rewash my hair.

Day three:
Usually around day three I start to use dry shampoo.
If you don’t have an oily scalp, you may not need to use it this soon.
I use my dry shampoo at night before bed so my hair is oil free in the morning.

Day four:
I usually brush out my curls and this is typically the last day I wear my hair down.

Day five – seven:
I like to play with fun styles.
I will do a side braid or a low bun, top knot, pony tail, etc.
Day seven I may even throw on a hat if I need to.

Favorite Hair Products:

Let’s face it, being a mom to two very active little girls, the very last thing on my mind is washing my hair especially with the fact that my hair is so curly, and it can be super frustrating and a super long process to smooth it out.  And let’s not talk about what this Texas humidity does to your hair.
If you have been trying to train your hair so you can wash less, looking for a shampoo to maintain your oily scalp, trying to get rid of all those hair impurities, or simply trying to have that squeaky clean hair feeling once you wash it, definitely give the Pantene Charcoal Collection shampoo and conditioner a try.

I’m also really excited to share a promotion Amazon is running until October 31. Click here, use the promo code “20PNTCHARC” to receive 20% off the Charcoal Collection Shampoo and Conditioner (530ml) when purchased together.

Healthy hair begins at the scalp!  Give it a good detox and you will be amazed at how long you can go without washing it.
